Why this site exists
We wanted a Wordle word finder that is fast, uncluttered and free of spoilers. You enter the guesses you made and the colors you got, and it shows which words are still possible. It never shows a daily answer, because it does not know one.
The goal is to help you think, not to think for you. The three-step guide and Wordle tips on the homepage explain the reasoning, so the finder doubles as a way to get better at the game.
How the tool is built
- It runs in your browser. Word Finder Wordle is a static website. There is no server-side app, account system or database, and your guesses are never sent anywhere.
- It follows the game’s rules. For every word in the list, the finder works out the colors your guesses would have produced if that word were the answer, using the standard two-pass method that handles duplicate letters. Only words that reproduce every row you entered are kept. This logic is covered by automated tests.
- It stays responsive. Filtering and ranking run in a background thread (a Web Worker), so tapping tiles never makes the page stutter, even on older phones.
- It is built to be accessible. Every tile color also shows a symbol, a color-blind palette is one tap away, the whole tool can be used with a keyboard, and every tile is labeled for screen readers.
How the word list is made
The finder uses 8,636 five-letter words from ENABLE2K, a word list that its authors placed in the public domain. To decide which words are likely Wordle answers, it checks the common-word levels of SCOWL (Spell Checker Oriented Word Lists), an openly licensed project by Kevin Atkinson. 2,055 words are marked as likely answers. Simple plurals and past tenses are moved down the list, since Wordle answers are rarely inflected forms.
The same method covers every word length from 3 to 10 letters. The 3-, 4- and 5-letter lists keep every ENABLE2K word. For 6 to 10 letters, ENABLE2K is dominated by rare dictionary words, so those lists keep only words that SCOWL also includes. Each length has its own page, such as the 6-letter word finder.
Because the list is built from open dictionaries, it may differ slightly from the official game list. We do not copy the official list or any other site’s list.
Ranking is a transparent rule of thumb: words score higher when their letters are common in each position among the remaining words, when they cover frequent letters, and when they are everyday words. The full explanation is in how the finder works.
