Where the words come from
ENABLE2K has thousands of rare 9-letter words, so this list keeps only words that also appear in SCOWL, an open word list sorted by how familiar words are. The most common of those are marked as likely answers. It is built from open dictionaries and may differ slightly from any official game list. The full method is on the About page.

These score highest on our 9-letter list because they place frequent letters in their most common positions. If you prefer to pick your own opener, choose one with as few repeated letters as you can.
