1 Type your guess
Enter the word you played in Wordle with the on-screen keyboard or your own, then press Enter to add it to the board.
-
2 Match the colors
Tap each tile until it matches your game: gray, then yellow, then green. Every color also shows a symbol, so you never have to rely on color alone.
-
3 Pick your next word
The list updates as you tap. Likely answers come first, and Best next guess suggests words that test the most useful letters. Tap any word to drop it into the next row.
How the finder works and our word list
Word Finder Wordle is a free Wordle word finder and word game helper. Here is exactly what it does.
Checking every word against your clues
For each word in the list, the finder asks one question: if this were the answer, would your guesses have produced exactly the colors you entered? It uses the same rules as the game. Greens are matched first, then yellows are handed out only while unmatched copies of that letter remain. That is why duplicate letters behave correctly: guess LLAMA when the answer is PLAZA and the second L turns green while the first stays gray.
Where the words come from
The list holds 8,636 five-letter words from ENABLE2K, a public-domain word list. About 2,100 of them are marked as likely answers because they appear in the common-word levels of SCOWL, an open word list sorted by how familiar words are. Simple plurals and past tenses such as CAKES or BAKED are moved down, since Wordle answers are rarely inflected forms.
The list is built from open dictionaries and may differ slightly from the official game list. We never copy the official list or another site’s list, and we never publish daily answers.
How results are ranked
Words are scored by how often their letters appear in each position among the words still possible, plus a bonus for covering frequent letters and a boost for everyday words. Likely answers are listed first, and Best next guess shows the five highest scores.
Your data stays on your device
The finder runs entirely in your browser. There is no sign-up, no cookies and no tracking. Your board is saved in your browser’s local storage so it is still there when you come back. Read the privacy policy for details.
Faster Wordle tips
Five habits that save guesses, whether or not you use a Wordle hint.
-
Open with five different, common letters
Your first guess has one job: rule letters in or out. A word with five different letters drawn from E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S and N tests far more than a word with a repeat. Before you type anything, the finder’s Strong starting words list shows the best openers from its own word list.
-
Read gray tiles carefully when a letter repeats
If you guess a word with two Es and one turns yellow while the other turns gray, E is still in the answer. The gray only says there is no second E. Enter the colors exactly as the game shows them and the finder applies this rule for you.
-
Break word traps with a probe word
Patterns like _IGHT or _ATCH can leave six or more answers that differ by one letter, and guessing them one by one can cost you the game. Spend a guess on a word that tests several of the missing letters at once, such as FLINT against _IGHT, then finish with confidence.
-
Move yellow letters to a new spot
A yellow tile tells you where a letter is not, which is as useful as where it is. Put that letter in a new position on your next guess. Board mode records these positions; Pattern mode only knows that the letter is somewhere in the word.
-
Let the count decide: explore or go for the win
Watch the number of possible words. When many remain, a Best next guess pick usually narrows the field faster than a lucky shot. When only two or three remain, guess the likeliest answer, because a correct guess ends the game.
Wordle word finder questions
What is a Wordle word finder?
A Wordle word finder lists every 5-letter word that still fits the clues from your guesses. You enter each word you played and the colors it got, and the finder removes every word that could not be the answer. Word Finder Wordle does this for free in your browser.
Is using a Wordle helper cheating?
That depends on how you play. Many people use a Wordle helper to learn the game, get unstuck, or review a puzzle after finishing it. If you play in a group with a no-help rule, respect it. The finder never shows the day’s answer. It only filters words using the clues you type in.
Does Word Finder Wordle show today’s Wordle answer?
No. We do not publish daily answers or spoilers. The finder only knows the guesses and colors you enter, so the words it suggests depend entirely on your own game.
What do the green, yellow and gray tiles mean?
Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different spot. Gray means the letter is not in the word, or that the word has no extra copy of a letter you already placed. In the finder, each color also shows a symbol: a check for green, a dot for yellow and a cross for gray.
Why is a word missing, or why did the game reject a suggestion?
Our list is built from open dictionaries (ENABLE2K and SCOWL), not from the official game list, so the two can differ slightly. Now and then a suggestion may not be accepted by the game, or an uncommon answer may be missing.
How does the finder choose the best next guess?
It scores every remaining word by how often its letters appear in each position among the words still possible, adds a bonus for covering common letters, and gives everyday words a boost. The five highest scores are shown. It is a fast rule of thumb, not a guarantee of the fewest guesses.
Can I use it as a 5-letter word finder for other games?
Yes. Pattern mode lets you fix known letters in place and list letters the word does or does not contain. That works for crosswords and any other word game with 5-letter answers.
